Hi All,

At present I live in a 2 story house with one toilet and an external soil pipe. The pipe is made from asbestos concrete which is a pain but we are looking to fit a new bathroom so it would make sense to replace it.

The pipe comes into the bathroom a bit high and the existing toilet sits on a block of wood about 5-6 cm high so that the waste could be connected. (We obviously dent want the same for the new bathroom)

The end of the soil pipe goes into the ground and is cemented in.

My questions are:

1. How easy will this be to replace?
2. What am I likley to find if I broke up the concrete at the base of the stack?
3.Do Different toilets have different height needs for waste?
4. I have checked the Asbestos regs, and l can remove it if I take the necessary precautions but to leave it there, it is likely l would have to saw through it. Is this possible to do safely?

Any help will be greatfully received.

Many Thanks

Are you sure the asbestos doesn't need specialist removal. You should check.

I would seriously get a pro in to do the job for you as it will be a PITA. :(

Because its asbestos cememnt which is less likley to cause harm than other forms of asbestos the Heath and Safety Executive (HSE) do not mandate that the removal is conducted by "licenced contractors" and they even publish a series of guides on their website on dealing with the material but is generally aimed at Asbestos Concrete panels because these are more common thn the soil pipes.

Specialists would cost thousands
