I am going to replace my towel radiator with a vertical one which is the same size and has the same width between the pipes but gives out more heat. It fixes in much the same way as a towel radiator.

Will I have to drain the system down or can I get away without having to do this.

I have read that it is hard to take towel radiators off without doing so and also that if replacing with a different type the system has to be drained.

If the tails are identical you can just close each valve down and drain the rad, then attach new rad.
However it may be tricky to get the wall fixings exact as you usually pipe up to a rad not vice versa.
Good luck
Pete
