Hello all

What are the best materials to use in replacing a garage roof?

My current garage roof is totally shot and requires complete replacement.

I was thinking of using 3/4 plywood and 2 or 3 layers of high tensile felt (first layer nailed, second / third layer stuck using cold bitumen). The top layer then painted with protective paint or stone chippings.

The roof is not totally flat - the joists incline slightly (they are sound by the way) so any surface water runs off.

Any suggestions / ideas greatly appreciated.

Best wishes
Steve

sounds like you have it sussed to me.

just be sure to extend the boards over the fascia 50mm or so, as to allow for a 'drip' into the gutter.

Depends how long you want the new covering to last. Try EPDM membrane as a single layer glued on OSB boards and you shouldn't have to worry again in 20 years. It's more expensive, but it is said it doesn't deteriorate like most felt. It's also perfect for a grass roof!

Low pitch roof is forever ;)

You can go up to 4m in height from ground level.
