Replacing my boiler... recommendations

The gas industry is changing - whether they like it or not. Years ago you took your car to the local garage to get a new exhaust or clutch, but when the market saw a gap - specialist exhaust, tyre, clutch centres were set up. They are efficient - and CHEAP.

Gas boilers are just the same. The market is there for quick fit specialist fitters. They are good at what they do because that's all that they do.

They are all GAS SAFE registered so you KNOW the installation is a good one.

The dinosaurs don't like it - but they are the ones sitting around doing nothing, the Quick-Fit fitters are out there making the money.

The days of charging a grand a day for a combi swap are gone.

Sorry guys.

I love that. Whack it in by someone who specialises in fitting boilers quick & cheap. Very similar, an exhaust pipe to a modern boiler. I should imagine you could take your house soon to an industrial estate where they will fit the boiler while you wait with a cup of coffee in a plastic cup on a sturday morning.
Whilst people advocate work like that the dinosaurs will always have work putting all the quick thick fitters work in order.

Lets use this thread to give the OP some proper advice, not let it become somewhere where Joe showcases what a king-sized tool he is. Yet again.

Joe - change the record FFS. Getting very predictable now.

I see a couple of fellas here have differing views on boiler installation :)

I will be on a late shift in 3 weeks time, which realistically is the only time I can get people round for quotes, before then I was hoping to get an idea of what's involved and what products I should be aware of (good or bad) and also an idea of costs.

The info about the powerflush was interesting as I was not aware of this, but it appears its a must have to ensure the validity of most boiler warranty's. I guess this would be one of those hidden costs that appears once the chap has his "foot in the door"

It's a one day job. Parts come to about 1K. How much labour does one add for a day's work?

Ebay feedback can't be rigged.

They just hate it that a Gas Safe fitter is undercutting them.

Get over it guys - it's the future.

Do you work at Kwikfit?

Everything u have said about boilers is not true.

The best is that getting a gassafe guy means it will be a good job!
Please elaborate on this, ill enjoy it and there **** all on tv

If he does it wrong - then Gas Safe will remove him from their list. Simples.

That's like saying this doctor works for the NHS, so you know he is good.
Or: any car that passed the mot is as good as any other that passed the mot.

Clearly, a boiler isn't the only place where you can find a knob.

I am happy for people to install cheap boilers for cheap.

I make way more money putting bad jobs right and fixing ****e boilers down to ****e installs.

Well that's just it - it's such a simple job you really can't get it wrong. That's why it's a cheap job.

So a Gas Safe fitter is a useless tradesman then? I thought you guys were top gun? Apparently not (according to you).

Partially agreed. Anyone can throw a boiler at the wall and connect some pipes to it without it leaking.

The reality is how long will that boiler last compared with the same boiler installed, setup correctly, correctly chosen for the job etc

putting right those cheap jobs is becoming the new money earner for installers who know what they are doing...

pay cheap pay twice!
