Hi,
I am having someone replace my old steel framed patio doors with a smaller upvc set of doors. I cannot see a lintel above the door and am a bit worried that the steel framed doors could be holding up a load bearing wall - could this be the case? I initially didn't think so but have read that sometimes years ago that was the practice as the door frames were strong enough to take the weight.
Also I need to have a gap made up of about 18 inches as the new doors are smaller - I have been advised that a single column of bricks would be ok - would that be strong enough? Are there any other questions I should ask about the brick column?
Many thanks,
