I have just decorated the hallway and had wanted to replace the light swich. It has two switches. One for the hall and one for the landing wich is two way. Simple I thought just buy a switch with two swithches, make a note of the position of original wires and reconect to new. Wrong, old switch has three terminals top and bottom. New switch has two top four at bottom.

Each side of the switch will have three terminals; Com, L1 and L2 (although they are sometimes called, L1, L2, L3 respectivly), they are arranged in a triangle with Com at the top and L1 and L2 at the bottom, your old switch had one of these 'triangles' inverted, the new one has them next to each other same way around.... simples
