Hi all,

I recently repointed a wall where most of it had fallen off over age.

I repointed it myself as I had very little funds.

I repointed it black and it looked pretty good.

A year on and a bit weather beaten it is not looking that good.

There appears to be a few white patches forming.

Can I clean it with something or do I have to admit defeat and get a professional in to redo it all?

It's falling out isn't it? If so any white patches are the least of your worries.

Do you have a closer up photo?

White patches are salt and need to weather away, not be washed off.

No, they are filled albeit a bit rough but it is starting to go a bit white in places.

Salt would make sense and sadly I was contemplating washing it.

So best to leave and let the good old british weather do its thing?

A lot of that looks like the mortar stains which have faded over time which is normal for a dyed mortar. Black tends to turn light grey.

Oh OK. Yes black dyed mortar is prone to white staining and fading to grey

Okay cool.

It has started to go grey in other areas which is not a problem.

Do you think the white stains will weather down to a grey colour eventually?
