Hi,

I've just had a log cabin built (I originally wanted a heavy-duty shed!) and was planning on using it as a gym/workshop but now it's done I can't help thinking that the addition of a log burner and a pull-out couch-bed plus TV, etc. would make it a great additional living space. Is it possible to get building control retrospectively involved just in case I decide to use it for more than just a gym/workshop?

Thanks :)

There is something called regularisation which is effectively retrospective building control approval (or otherwise).

....and the council will charge you an arm and a leg. If it's within 1m of a boundary and over 15 sq m, don't even bother.
If it's going to be used as living space, you would also need planning permission.
