Hello there, another question from an electrical duffer.

I have just purchased a SUNVIC TLX 1206 receiver (and associated stat) to replace my existing hardwired thermostat.

This is to be wired into a Potterton EP2000 programmer.

Does anyone out there know whether these are compatible units.
If so, any idea where I can get a decent wiring giagram for the ep2000 ??
The unit I have is quite old - probably 15 years.
Many thanks

EP2000 takes me back a few years.
If I remember correctly this one needs a link from L to terminal 1 (common). It also has a wiring diagram printed in it! So your stat common goes to the CH ON terminal of the EP2000, stat CALL or NC goes to wherever your old CALL went, and I assume there is no accelerator on the new stat so no need for the Neutral on the new one.

Suggest you check control valve maker's site to confirm, and NEVER use a fuse other than 3A for heating.

Thanks, Meldrew's mate - I CAN believe it !!
Could I pursue this a little further with you.....

The ep2000 programmer has a terminal 'block' labelled

A,B,C,D,N,L,1,2,3,4,5

and has 4 cables wired into it (all have earth cores connected)

Cable 0 is the one that goes on to the boiler, the brown core is cabled to D, blue to N

Cable 1 I think is the Mains cable, blue to N, brown to L

Cable 2 I think is the ch thermostat cable, red to D, blue to N and yellow to 2

Cable 3 I think is the hw thermostat cable, blue to 1, red to 3, yellow to 4

There is also an internal link cable from L to 5

The Rf receiver (new thermostat) terminal 'block' is labelled

N
L
1 -
2 - com
3 - on
4 - off

From this, are you able to advise cable connections between programmer and new stat ??

Many thanks
....John

You need to know what the terminals are on the old EP2000 programmer. Isn't there a diagram on the back or inside of the EP2000? Failing that you can work it out with a multimeter.

I would guess that ABCD are merely junction terminals that have no link to programmer, N & L are obviously mains in, and I would think that 1 is common and 2345 are CH on, off, HW on, off, but not necessarily in that order! But that doesn't fit with the existing wiring that you describe!

Hi Chrishutt, many thanks.

The ep2000 wiring diagram is labelled

N,L,1,2,3,4,5

There are various switch connections which I don't really understand but will explain as best I can

N and L go to mains
L also goes to HW
1 goes to HW
2 goes to CH
3 shows an open switch ON to HW
4 shows an open switch ON to CH
5 goes to CH

I hope that makes sense
