Fek knows what he has done as there is no need to put a link between live and 1 as this is all done internally within the boiler.
There should be a permenant LNE from either fused spur or the LNE of the clock to the boiler.
THe room stat should be wired from terminal 1 at boiler up to switched side of clock backplate terminal 1 out at terminal 3 to room stat live in out of roomstat back to terminal 2 on the boiler. ( there should be no live link on the clock back plate either)
terminal 4 on the clock backplate is spare and this can be used to join the wire out of the room stat and the one back to the boiler terminal 2 together
