Rotten board 1st story on bay window help

Hello

Just been up to check a leak and found this unholy mess, sponge like wood and 5 tubs of silicone to bodge it up which is years old. only moved in in the last 2 years.

I have current bodged it back up for this winter, ready to complete a fix some spring.

Is my best bet removing guttering, and tiles around bay window area, re felt the tiles part and replace all the wood round top of window/roofline?

I will be also recladding the bay under the window also while I am at it.

Originally the lower pitch roof detail was never tiled properly. They have omitted various soakers to weather the pitch change and the verge is not formed correctly. Hence your little mess.
To do the job properly you will need to strip the tiles off the bay. Replace rotten timber which looks like the end rafter and fascias. retile using lead soakers interleaved the tiles untill the low pitch blends into the steeper.

Unfortunately the low pitch section is below recommended roof pitch for plain tiles. Hopefully the tile gauge has been shut down to increase headlap. Consider two layers of underlay.
Not a catastrophe!

Thanks for the detailed reply, I did think the pitch over the bay wasn't very steep. Looks like original to house and it' been bodged instead of fixed.

The other side of the house we have a leak on chimney breast which also needs lookin at, think that's an issue with the lead flashing. So plenty of things to try get sorted and done properly so they last, suppose it comes with buying a house.
