Afternoon folks, I'm a newbie so go gentle

Got a couple of rotten roof rafters, completely replacing them seems like a right pain in the arse. It's rotten just below the ridge for about a half foot in length. The leak has now been dealt with, would it be ok to attach a new piece of the same sized timber to the damaged rafter and say run it a few feet back from the damage? Using bolts and washers?

You can splint a piece in make it as long as possible and I suggest treating it with wood preserver.

Thanks, would it be ok to cut the rot out? Once a new piece has been bolted on
