There is an annoying noise behind the speedo/rev counter in my 1993 rover 414, it sounds almost like a loose screw rattling. It sometimes stops when I am slowing down or when travelling really slow (around 20mph).

I took the instrument panel out to try and find the loose screw but there were none. I have also has the speedo cable off when doing this so this it definatley not loose. I do notice that the speedo needle has a slight wobble in it above 30mph or so, could this be the cause? If so do I need to simply replace the speedo cable?

The noise is driving me insane so any ideas would be appreciated.

its more a slight quiver than a shake.

Cable didnt look bent to be honest but I guess there is no harm in replacing it to see unless there are any other ideas?

Try taking the speedo cable off the speedo and spaying WD 40 down the cable .sounds like a dry innercable catching on the outercable.
