Hi,

I'm just at the planning stage of a single storey kitchen extension (5700mm wide x 3000mm length) and have had to scrap several roof design ideas due to high ceilings downstairs and large windows upstairs. I have approximately 430mm to play with between the downstairs ceiling and the bottom of the upstairs windows and I can't seem to figure out a pitched design that will work in such a small space. I am considering a flat roof or roof with very low pitch as a result.

I am also planning to knock through and fit an RSJ in this 430mm space so the new kitchen ceiling will be flush with the existing one, providing the required RSJ will fit into that space.

I'm hoping someone can suggest some ideas on how to attach a wall plate to an area that has an RSJ fitted into it.

A builder will be installing it and I will have calculations done by a structural engineer, but I am just looking for some ideas on whether it is possible to work with such a narrow space so I can plan a roof that will work.

Many thanks.
