Figure of speach, joke btw. Never cut towards anyone. They don't let apprentices loose with knives nowadays do they? Afaik ours are now taught to use specialised scoring devices as opposed to the old stanleys.
This is how I'd go about doing the swa;
Firstly prepare the cable, get angles etc in it and into the correct orientation.
Put the shroud and the top part of the gland on the cable.
Fix lower part of gland into the enclosure, using earthing banjos as required.
Mark off where the cable meets the bottom (nearest the thread) of the (knurled) cone on the gland.
With a hacksaw score around the SWA, do not cut all the way through the armouring, about half way through is normally fine.
Cut back the waste piece of sheath.
Taking a few pieces at a time, bend the armour backwards and forwards until it breaks off. Once all the excess armour is removed cut back enough of the sheath to allow the armour to spread out, insert metal ring if required, insert into bottom of gland. Mark out the inner cable sheath to the longer than the gland, remove from gland if required and strip back. Tighten the top half of the gland onto the bottom half securing the armour in the process.
