Scantronic 9800 OMIT Query

I have a Scantronic 9800 installed in 1992. One of the external doors is due to be replaced and I need to disable (omit?) temporarily the tampler fitted to the door frame. The present door is wood and there are no magnets present (although trying a magnet near the tampler activates it). Documentation identifies the zone number for the door and all zones / tamplers are identified with OMIT = Yes. Trying the OMIT sequence fails. After entering my code and pressing OMIT a small zero appears in the display. Then entering the zone (I’ve tried it as one digit and with a leading zero), the display doesn’t display the zone, but just shows two flashing bars in the display. Not as per the manual. Advice please!
