My mate runs his own valeting business, he can
get quite deep scratches out using a 9" angle grinder
which has a buffing pad attached. He also has differing
grades of polish - from a cutting compound right up to
light polish.

I'd take it to my local valeters and ask, if they are
any good they'll be able to do this....

Regards Hammy

If you do use T cut or rubbing compound make sure it is the right grade to suit your paint type. metallics are usually different than flat paints.

If the valet can't help you could try dentmasters, car medic or similar.

When you say "lightly scratched", do you mean there are quite a few mild scratches, such as where it has been washed with a sponge that has grit on it? Or do you mean there are just a couple of light scratches on it?

If it is the second, then I find that Autoglym Resin Polish works really well. It isn't an abrasive, but if you rub it with gentle pressure then it gets scratches out. Maybe it fills the scratch with resin, I dunno. But it works.

I have heard that T-cut will knacker modern paints as you can work through the clearcoat far too easily.

If the scratches are more severe, a specialist repairer can do wondrous things. The person who replaced my rear windscreen ground broken glass against the C pillars... I was livid. Anyway, they got a company called "Chips Away" to repair it. Took the guy a couple of hours, and you could see the repair job at first. But a few months later and I can't find where the damage was. It wouldn't suprise me if the used car garages use this kind of service to prep their cars for sale, get them done in bulk.

Yes Adam, used car lots (and new) and also bodyshops use these repair methods.

Most outfits are franchises who used to work mainly for the trade. Many garages have now had their own staff trained to save cost and give more flexibility. I think this is making the franchises advertise and deal more with the public.
