Sheet insulation effective?

Hi, I'm looking to insulate my loft with 50mm Jab board between the rafters (after leaving an air gap).
I want to avoid the extremes of temperature in the winter and summer, it will only be used for storage.

Am I wasting my time?
Will it be effective?
