Hi All,
I am looking to remove some wood from the inside of a shotgun stock to fit a recoil system.
Tis would be from where the butt pad would normally fit.
What would you recommend.
It is some type of hardwood, not sure what.
I need to remove 60mm high x 25mm thick x 110 mm deep into the stock.
Cheers
Mike

Traditionally walnut, I think......consider using a 25mm forstner bit to drill two holes to the required depth, and removing the remainder with a very sharp chisel.
Your marking out would have to be very accurate to just touch the outside mark of the 60mm line, which would naturally leave a 10mm solid piece in the centre to be chiselled away. You could drill a 10mm hole in the centre of that to remove more waste.
Somewhat similar to drilling out a mortise for a door lock but the stock would need to be very firmly held.
John :)
