Should billionaires and multinationals pay fair tax?

Yep, there must be an election on the way.

I must say it's a pleasant change to see Tory politicians coming round to my way of thinking (or pretending to, in an attempt to harvest votes).

"Some of the world's largest technology firms are facing hefty new bills as the UK government moves to fundamentally change the way they are taxed.

Google and Facebook are braced for significant changes in the tax system after the Treasury told the BBC that a new tax on revenues was the "potentially preferred option".

It would open up the firms' huge UK sales numbers to the tax authorities.

At the moment, tax is levied on profits, a much smaller figure.

Google, for example, said it made sales - revenues - of £1bn in the UK in 2016 and a pre-tax profit of £149m."

Billionaire multinational tax-dodgers might pay a bit more tax? It'll be great news

If it ever happens.

Not everyone is as soft on the rich as the Tories.

No mention of media owners yet.

I didn't know that. Who you referring to?

Also still waiting for evidence.

Taxing revenue is stupid. It means software companies will do very well and utilities will go bust

Good heavens:

We are a step closer to taxing the super-rich

What once seemed like an impossibility is now being considered by G20 finance ministers

"The global corporate tax reform that came into effect this year was something of a miracle. Less than a decade ago, few would have thought it realistic that most countries in the world would ever agree to close loopholes for corporate taxation, institute a global minimum rate, and decide how to apportion the new tax take — set to be more than $200bn a year — among themselves.

Yet here we are. Some parts of the global corporate tax reform are still to be ratified, but the minimum level is now being widely implemented. And if one miracle is possible, why not two? That is how we should look at recent stirrings of something similar: a multilateral effort to overhaul the flawed system for taxing super-rich individuals.

In February, the economist Gabriel Zucman — a scourge of wealthy tax optimisers everywhere — presented G20 finance ministers with a proposal for a global billionaire’s tax, at the request of Brazil. Brasília, which currently holds the group’s presidency, is keen to move to the next stage of the global tax agenda, which could be to close the loopholes that allow the world’s richest individuals to pay very little tax."

I think this one is as likely as your prediction that Jeremy Corbyn would win the last General Election.

If an unemployed single mum on benefits gets burgled, should she get help from the British police?
If an illegal immigrant has a stroke and falls over in the street, should he/she get one of our ambulances?
At least the millionaires have paid into our tax system at some point, or created jobs which then earns more tax for the country.
Big difference between paying tax on your wages and paying tax on profits.
Profits are usually made off the backs of others.
Therefor should be liable for more tax.

Sod what tax they pay, that's a sideshow.
Is there any mechanism to stop individuals (ok companies if you like) becoming richer without end? No.
Last week (or so) in one day, Mark Zuckerberg became $204,000,000,000 richer. That's the entire annual GDP of a small country, San Marino, say.
If Apple or the others paid a load of tax they'd just earn more money and it would have made bugger all difference.
Even as individuals there are many ways to not pay tax.
For companies it's even easier.

Everyone should drink Chamomile tea, or Lapsang souchong, or Peppermint.
As Karl Marx said,
Propertea is theft.
