need some advise please,

new shower stopped working and upon investigation i discovered that the mcb had burnt on the button where it connects to busbar, and the busbar cover was melted - how could this happen?

shower is 9.5kw
50a mcb (only size available for db)
about 7 metre cable run in 10mm clipped direct no insulation
rccb side of db

How does it connect to the bus bar (it varies between manufacturers). If it was a screw terminal, it was probably just not done up tight enough, causing some arcing...

Or maybe it was a 'less good' brand of CU which was not suitable for a 50A load.

So when you replace the CU (notifiable - are you registered?), pick a good one, and do the screws up tight ;)
