Shower Head Holder

We have a problem with the rod that holds our shower head, it keeps slipping out of the top bit that holds it (see top of pic below).

Is there anything we can wedge up there that would hold it a bit better, or anything that we can wedge in the bottom bit (see pic below) that won't rust?

Are the bits that fix to the wall too far apart? You might need to drill a new hole for one screw. Or, if you pop the covers off, are there slots rather than holes for the fixing screws, and can you just loosen the screws, push it all together then tighten the screws again?

I don't really want to drill new holes but I'll pop the covers off and have a look underneath, see if there's the sliding slots that can be moved or not.

Whats wrong with redrilling a new hole it's on the grout line so can be grouted in.
