Shower pressure problem

Hi,

The other day i was in the shower and as i was lathering I hit the knob that controls the water pressure and temperature (one knob that turn left to be turned on and to adjust temperature). Well now, the water always comes out of the shower head unless i go downstairs and shut off the valve thats on the copper pipe down there. When you push up or down on the knob, it kinda stops the leak. I thought the knob may have been stripped, but im not sure. does anyone know what this is or how i can fix this?

You'll have to strip your knob mechanism down and take a look inside.
