Shower Unit

Just finishing of an extension, with regard to the en-suite bathroom we are having a shower unit in there, all I want to know is would I need to actually get the shower base or just put the wast pipe in a rough place and move it if needed as I dont have time to do all this now but want to allow for the drainage etc?
