Shower valve leak

Recently cleaned off timescale to free off shower mixer valve and now it’s leaking from the square valve handle.
The plumbers contacted are saying it’s a full unit swap out as they won’t be able to source spare cartridge part (10 years old). This will be a pain as tiles may be disturbed.
Does this seem reasonable or could it be something simpler like an o-ring?
Been on nights all weekend, so haven’t had valve handle off or anything.
Any advice would be appreciated

Most spare parts are available. If you do not know the make and model of the shower which is very likely as they hardly ever have branding on them then you need to go on a site called shower doctor and submit photos. They will then identify the shower parts available. However the majority of the time you need a plumber to remove the and take photos of the cartridge. I’m a plumber and do this all the time. Very rare that parts can’t be obtained but it is a pain in the back side job.

Plumber been round but can’t get handle off… stuck on with limescale build up. Have given it a good soak with WD40 but no joy as yet.

Yeah, he released a small grub screw before trying to remove. He had a pair grips on it and was giving it good go but didn’t want to completely knacker it up which fair enough.

It will eventually come off. Even if you have to heat it up and damage the handle. Buying a new handle is cheaper than smashing off tiles. In its current state it’s already broke regardless
