Hi

i've just replaced a 6.5kw shower with a 8.5kw shower, the problem i have is that the 30amp mcb trips after about two minutes, so i've stopped using the shower.

I was told that the 6mm cable needs to be changed to 10mm, so i have just rang an electrician for a quote but he says 6mm is ok for this size shower but i will need a 40amp mcb, would you all agree with this.

If so, any ideas where i can get a crabtree c50 40amp mcb from.

Cheers

37a load might be ok on existing cable, subject to condition / age and length.

There's voltage drop to calc and the length is the key.

Why would you want a 40a MCB when you already have a spark who has quoted.
I assume there is either an RCD in circuit or at the CU per the current requirement.

The MCB is a modest £7 inc VAT, sparks will have to test and provide a cert. If you have no bonding to water and gas services that will need doing.
