Hi,

Title should read tsi :) can't see how to edit title on my phone.

Installed some oak veneer doors and put one coat of colourless sikkens satin on. Looks great but has finished rough to the touch, might have over applied?

What's best to do next? Do I rub it down and re-apply or just leave them?

Do I use wire wool to just smooth it out?

Thanks for any help!

The first coat has raised the grain, you will need to sand it down with wet and dry (silicon carbide), use a fine grade, e.g. 400 grade and apply another coat. You might want to check the door manufacturers instructions regarding applying varnish/stain/wax etc because some solvent coatings may delaminate the oak veneer and this tsi stuff is solvent based I believe. I've always used acrylic varnishes on oak veneer with no problems.

Thanks. I did check the door instructions and it just said no wax or oil product.
I'll flatten it out and add another coat. I'm tempted to try rubbing it on with a rag. I did try that at first and it felt good on the wood but the can said brush so I did that. It feels to me like I out ok much on.

As IC says just give it a light rub with 400 grit paper and apply another coat

Thanks guys. Getting there with it with 400 and wire wool. The Sikkens does seem to sit on top of the wood though.
