Hi all,

Just sanded some skirting and door surround for adding some satin wood. Unfortunately there are some parts where old paint has flaked off revealing dark wood underneath. I'm now on coat 5 trying to hide it.

Used to use gloss which seems easier to hide these bits.

Should I have primed first? If so what would you recommend?

Do I need to sand / start over.

Many thanks for any advice.

I find Dulux satinwood doesn't cover really dark areas well, even after 2 coats unless the primer all but eliminates the darkness.

I just painted some pine skirting and obviously my primer was not terribly good as it took 4 coats of satinwood to cover it! Lesson learned.
