Is it normal for a central heating boiler to omit a foul smell if it hasn't been used for a while?

We have just recently put back on our heating and we can smell an unusual odour (not gas) from the boiler. The boiler itself is not a combi and has been installed for about 10 yrs.

Should i get someone round to give it a clean and if so how much does this usually cost?

Thanks

Any strange smell from a boiler should be investigated IMMEDIATELY.

TURN IT OFF - DO NOT USE IT.

Best get the RGI who normally services it round to have a look.
