Unsure if this needs posting here (because its powered by electric) or in the alarms section but here goes...

My smoke alarm has developed an annoying pip....every few minutes it goes pip.

I wondered if it was the battery....i twisted the lid off to find it was electric only. I turned the breaker off at the fuse box and the alarm still pips...im presuming there is a permanent live feed to a smoke alarm?

The alarm hasnt gone off recently. Only activations as to test it...which still doesnt stop the pipping noise...

Any ideas as to how to stop the annoying pip?

Thanks[/i]

The battery is probably a sealed rechargeable type which can't be removed.

Is there an indicator light on the alarm (usually green) to show that power is connected?
It is possible that the mains has failed some time ago, and the beep is to warn that the battery is low.

Some have a slide old tray that contains a 9v PP3 for backup purposes, I believe Aico did/do manufacture such a mains alarm.

What is the make and model.
Some have sealed Lithium cells that have a life of 10 years.

Or you may have lost power to the alarm/ Have you checked that?
