I am about to start installing an en suite bathroom to the bedroom in my house. I will need to put a hole in the wall behind where the new toilet will go, for the soil pipe.

Do the professionals knock a new hole with a hammer and chisel, or can I get a large core drill to make a neater job?

Not that I do this very often at all, but I always use a 6" core drill to allow for the fitting to go in the hole as well.

Large core drill. In your position I would hire it together with the correct power tool (i.e. with the right clutch) to use if safely.

117mm will just clear the pipe, but if you go off line then it won't.

127mm will give just about enough room for the collar of a fitting.
