Hi all
I have an old art nouveau cast iron fire place which has had the guts ripped out of it. No hood, no bars, no insert, no stone in front. All it has is the surround and the hearth stone, which looks like concrete to me. In fact the stone in front of the fire place had been replaced with poured concrete which I have now removed with a view of replacing it with something a little pretttier.
My question is how the hell do I go about fitting the insert. From the various threads I've seen on here, most seem to require removal of the surround to allow bricking up behind the insert. Is this absolutely necessary?
Cheers
Nath
