SOLVED! Lawnmower mulching plug disappeared?

I suddenly noticed today that the bag on my Mountfield SP185 lawnmower was filling up. It looks like the mulching plug has disappeared? Has this ever happened to anyone? I'm absolutely baffled. It's been fine for two years. Might it have disintegrated? Or been stolen? Help I'm going mad!

It's only clipped in....maybe a branch has whisked it away?

I FOUND IT!!

I chucked the grass cuttings over the wall into the field - when I went and checked there it was!

I'm not going mad after all
