Sony Laptop motherboard gone doo dah!

The motherboard in my Sony Lap top has gone, how terminal is this and is anything salvageable?

It should be possible to remove the hard disk from the dead machine and connect it to another computer and recover all of your documents. There's lots of info online, or post back here if you need help.

Do you want to do this, or get the Sony running again? What is wrong with it (how do you know the motherboard is broken)?

Give us a bit more info, and people can suggest some things to do - don't get the hammer out just yet

Thanks Colin, Yup pretty sure it's the motherboard a pal had a look and said the same thing, I was wondering if their was any way of repairing it or should I go for a new one? Will try and reclaim the docs as you suggest.
