you can't buy cable modems can you? not at PC world and places like that..

The old type 4000 modems could be uncapped and you could get unlimited connection speed. You needed to know how to set them up, and you needed a program called IPThief to sniff out an IP address and MAC address of another modem on another subnet leg configured for 10 mb/s, and then clone it and recapture the config file from NTL, and voila, unlimited speed. I ran an uncapped modem for years, even then i rarely got more than 8mb/s, so im glad i wasnt paying for 10 mb/s, i never got it.

The newer modems cant be uncapped so easily, and they've invented a way to spot clones ( they couldnt spot them before).
