We have a SW facing wooden side door which gets baked by the sun in summer and catches all the rain in winter.

Although it was only painted about 12 months ago and is generally in good order, I've just noticed that there are small cracks (about 0.5mm wide) along some of the joints. I'm concerned that these will enable water to get in and start to rot the wood.

Can anyone please recommend the best way to deal with the cracks?

I have a recollection that I've read of some special paint you can buy which seals such cracks and penetrates and hardens the wood around them. Or was it a dream!?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks,

V

It must have been a dream or some manufacturers fantasy.... Use a gun & tube of acrylic frame sealant , smooth it into the cracks with a wet finger (sponge off if necessary) ..When dry apply weathershield exterior undercoat & gloss

Exterior decorators caulk or good woodfiller-RONSEAL. Bit of sanding and dulux weathershield. Undercoat is not esential cos as you said doors are in good condition
