perhaps you are not meant to.
when i used to work for a certain white goods company, there was one motor inparticular that if its brushes ever did wear out (very very rare) you had to change the whole motor
perhaps yours is the same.
you could try going to a w/m spares place ask for brushes and see if they supply them (obviously mention make model of m/c and motor)

No, sounds very much like the brushes. They normally clip in so it's a question of finding which bit to press to release them. Mind you I suppose this post is now a bit out of date.
The sparking is caused by intermittent contact of the brush with the armature.
