In my kitchen I have 8 tiny spot lights. 50 watt bulbs in them. Can i put them on a dimmer switch? My friend said he thought the voltage would be to low to do it.

are they low voltage? or mains? look on the bulb, it will either be 240v or 12v.
240v are dimmable with few problems, but you will need an 800w dimmer due to them being halogens.
12v need a transformer compatible dimmer, and this too will need to be 800w. The transformer also needs to be dimmable.
There arent many 800w dimmers about, they are expensive. Try a large wholesalers.
