stain or paint over wardrobe doors

Hi can anyone help i have wardrobes with blue doors and beech surrounding the type you get in argos for kids could i stain over the blue as i am decorating the bedroom and don't want to buy new furniture.I don't know where to start do i use something underneath first?

You can't stain formica or melamine but you can paint it. Do as big-all suggest and use a primer designed for it before applying the topcoat of your chosen colour.
Alternatively, use a cupboard makeover system like this: http://www.crownpaint.co.uk/help-and-advice/product/crown-cupboard-makeover-paint.htm which will do the job in one.
