Hi

I have recently moved into a new house and trying to figure out the best way to install banisters and spindles on these stairs? The newel post is annoying small at 70mmx70mm and the outer stringer is installed into it so if I remove the newel I will also have to remove the stringer

anyone have any ideas please?

thanks

It's easier than you think.
You can remove the newel by carefully splitting it with a chisel (downwards)
Then install a new newel (!) by making a slot in it from the bottom, allowing the stringer to slide into the newel and fix with screws or drill right through and use wooden dowels.

Then basically follow that video, and subsequent ones.
It's handy to paint or stain the some of the wood before installation so have a think.
If doing stained hardwood collect all the fine sawdust as it's good to keep and mix as filler
