I put some boxes of laminate flooring. In the instructions, it says to lay the first laminate board at the doorway.

Anyone know why?

Well I didnt.
I never had that on my instructions, & if it had I wouldnt have started there.

Reason is to make it easier to install for a diy novice. Depending on what flooring your installing you have to remove the locking system etc to get under door frame if work towards it.

Not so good advice if you have more than one doorway, could confuse people.

;)
Specially with the so-called 'easy' click-systems. Starting at a doorway is a good idea then, but you'll have to same old problem (how to fit in that last board which can't click) when there are opposite doors.
Good old T&G works much easier
