Hi All

I have a recently brought a J reg escort from a friend that has been fairly well maintained.

I have 2 questions:

1.) When I use the acceleration pedal I get a jolt in my steering.
On putting my foot down the 1st inch on the accelerator my steering jolts to the left. The when taking my foot off of the accelerator at the last inch or so the steering then jolts to the right.

It isn't anything too major, BUT when travelling at 70mph it could well be an issue!!

2.) When I turn the car over there seems to be a fair bit of grey-ish smoke coming from the exhaust (Only a minor thing)

If anyone could give me any ideas on this I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

Steve

Don't know about the steering issue, but grey smoke implies oil being combusted. If so check how much oil you are using. The worst case could be worn piston rings.

Hi Stevie

I think you should check the engine and gearbox mountings, sounds like you have one that has parted and it's allowing the units to twist when you take up and ease off the drive. Also check for movement on the track control arm bushes (both sides) while you are at it.
