Following the replacement of a WC siphon the flush handle is now very stiff. I think it is that the return spring in the siphon is tough. Is there anything that can be done to make the handle easier to operate? Thanks again for any advice.

If the spring is too strong the handle will "return" very quickly. Never seen a very strong one. More likely the handle shaft is stiff, or the wrong hole is being used on the handle's INTERNAL lever, where the hook from the syphon hangs.

The hook from the syphon enters the internal lever at the farthestmost hole. Should it not make the lever easier to turn rather than harder? Or have I got it the wrong way round?

Try undoing the locking screw and moving the lever along the shaft.
Try the hook in different holes. Make sure the lever doesnt rub against the syphon. Sometimes you can cut a bit off the lever with a hacksaw.
Its a trial and error job till you get it right.
Sometimes there is no answer and you have to buy a different make of handle. Try to get one of the same manufacture as the cistern

K T J no that's the wrong way round. But other holes will give less distance of pull. Experiments it is!
