Good Morning all,
Just had a call from a friend, ALL of his storage heaters have stopped working, (in that they are not heating up).
He's on an eco 7 tarriff with two meters, the heaters are off the "night" meter.
I have a fairly good understanding of testing, elec safety etc having completed my Elec Installation Level 2 C&G but not had much actual site / work environment for experience.
I'm going round to have a look tomorrow to see if its something simple, What items can i check for? Usually i'd turn off elecs, check fuse in the fused spur. IF that's ok, i'd take off the spur check wiring, and then turn elecs back on with the heater off, and check if mains power is coming to the incoming side of the spur. (of it its got a neon then that will indicate without needing to take off).
If power on the incoming side, I'd rewire the heater onto a plug and connect to mains, and also connect a device (eg lamp fitting + lamp) to the spur and check what does/doesn't work.
Problem is given that its on eco7, there will be no power coming in on the supply side... so i cant easily check that side without going into the consumer unit - which I'm not prepared to do. Is there another way i can check before i ask him a qualified electrician to come - or at least give the electrician a better idea of what work is needed when he calls?
