Hi all,

The previous owner of our house for some "unknown" reason decided it would be good to paint the lead flashing under our front window with White paint. It looks terrible and we want to bring it back to the lead finish to match the one under the upper window.

I tried some nitromors but it took me about 1hr to clear about 2" square area. So I'm thinking I should try a heat gun and scrape it off? It sits right under the front window so to prevent burning the upvc I was thinking of using something like a Solder Pad to protect it.

Does this sound like a good idea? :?:

I would also consider how well fixed the lead is, i.e. whether it would be simpler to replace or chase a decor piece in over the top of the existing.

You risk damaging the lead and window with heat.

Careful not to heat to much as this will create toxic vapours (been there, not a good experience), wear a mask :)

I can't remove it really as it's set into the brick work I think.

I will wear a mask for sure, how likely am I to damage the lead with the heat? It's had some hammerite on it too sadly does that mean more heat?
