Maybe it will allow you to! If I try that, the pieces of string usually just end up wound all around the cable and essentially 'unpullable', unless one pulls out the cable with them - in which case, as you say, one can pull a string in at that time, anyway!

Forget the ducting - not needed.
If you are concerned about heavier loads being required in the future, just buy some 10mm cable instead.

If you still must have ducting, this is the type of item:
