I'm having a similar problem.

Double light switch in the hall.
Double light switch on the landing.

Not counting the earth (attached to metal wall box) there are 6 wires in each switch.

Either light can be switched on/off from either upstairs or downstairs.

Took the old switches off, made a note of which was in the common, which was in the live etc and now all that happens is on the downstairs switch, only one of the two switches works and only controls the downstairs light.
On the upstairs switch, only one of the switches works and only controls the upstairs light...... where am I going wrong !!!!!
