Table top finishing help please

Hi there, I am looking at restoring a couple of coffee tables. The tops are water stained and dented slightly. I'm going to sand it down to bare wood, and have been told just to beeswax it, but I don't know if this is just a quick fix piece of advice.. I'm after a light wood finish that would be reasonably hard wearing. Any one got any advice please. Thanks Dougie

when i built my rad cover and fireplace out of teak i stained the timber then used a clear wax to give it a lovely patiner,and there still looking good 6 years later.
