Hello, i am about to replace some tap washers . As there are no service valves on the taps should i shut off the water at the stopcock even if the taps are connected to the cistern and not the mains?
you can either go into the loft and tie up the ball valve and then leave the tap running to drain the tank before changing the washers, or you can turn the supply off at the mains and then run the taps till the tank is empty. Depends which is easier.
I'd say turn it off at the mains, but I don't know how old your mains cock is. It might be siezed and even worse you may snap it off.
