Telephone extension problems

Hi,

I have recently ran a new extension socket in the house, the phone is working fine, however when i pick up to answer the phone the other phone connected keeps ringing. I have 2 phones connected up and sky/adsl etc.

the confusing thing is that if I pick up the other phone the 2nd one stops no problem, any ideas??

i seem to have found the problem, looks like it is the handset, works fine with 2 other handsets
